Want to Tell Somebody?

Many children can’t wait to open a package when they see it has their name on it. How about the child whose birthday present is delivered a few days before his/her celebration and the parents do not render permission for him/her to open the gift until the birthday party? A child’s mind is full of anticipation so much so that all they can do is think about that perfect present. What is it? It could be something I could play with for hours! I wonder if it is the game that I’ve been asking for? It could be a new outfit to wear! I hope that my parents let me open it tomorrow! The heart is full of thoughts of their new experiences with their perfectly chosen gift.

All over the world today many adults have lost themselves in the hustle of the world in which they live. Parents struggle to keep an excitement about the most perfect gifts they have, their children, as mentioned in Psalms 27:3-5 Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from Him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate. Fewer and fewer parents run home with the excitement of discovering the wonders of their perfect gifts from God, found in their children.

Children’s ministers have a unique challenge before them. Our roles have changed from Pastor, Teacher to personal friend, and missionary. We need to anticipate the children’s arrival at church, school or Bible club with the enthusiastic anticipation to be the one to tap in and open the heart, discover the inner person, release the gift and invest in this good and perfect gift. It’s a lifestyle! We need to stretch ourselves in ways that would open the avenues of God’s will in their lives!
