LESSON 14: Jonah Tries to Hide
Activity: Hide & Seek
Play Hide and Seek! Let the children take turns being it.
Tell the children that today’s Bible story is about a man who tried to hide from God!
Lesson: Jonah Learns the Hard Way
Materials:
o My Bible~ 20 OT Bible Stories; pp 36 & 37
o A Blanket
As you read the story, have the children pretend that the blanket is the boat, and then the whale. Have them sit on the blanket and pretend to sail the boat. When the storm comes up, have them grab the edges of the blanket and shake it wildly! Then, when Jonah gets thrown overboard, have them roll off the blanket. When the whale swallows Jonah, have them crawl under the blanket! When the whale spits Jonah out, have them roll out from under the blanket…etc.
Activity: A Whale of a Tail!
Have the children line up and hold onto the shoulders of the person in front of them. Tell the children that they are going to pretend to be the great fish’s tail! The leader walks around quickly, moving and twisting, as all the other children try and hang on! Let the children take turns being the leader.
Game: Don’t Fall in the Water
Materials:
o Masking Tape or Yarn or String
Put a long strip of masking tape on the floor (or a long piece of yarn or string) and have kids pretend it is a bridge. They must balance by walking on the tape or string without stepping in the water.
Game: Clothespins
Materials:
o Five Clothespins
o A Jar
Play a game by having the children hold clothespins, one at a time, up to their noses (eyes, chins, etc.) and drop them into a jar.
