LESSON 8: Samson, the Strong Man
Activity: How Strong Are You?
Materials:
o a heavy book
o a small ball and several paper cups
o balloons
o a paper airplane for each child
Tell the children you want to see how strong they are! Let them take turns doing the following:
*Lifting the heavy book above their heads
*Stacking the cups and knocking them down with the ball
*Popping a balloon by stomping or sitting on it
*Throwing a paper airplane very far
When the children have each tried all the activities, tell them that today’s Bible story is about a man who was the strongest man in the world!
Lesson: The Strongest Man
Materials:
o Story Book about Samson
o A long wig made from construction paper (Use a long piece of construction paper and cut it 3/4 across in strips. Staple or tape the ends together to form a wig. Use 2 pieces of paper if necessary.)
o Safety Scissors
Read the story to the children. Choose one child to be Samson. Let the child put on the wig and have another child come and cut his hair (the wig) while he is asleep. Use extreme caution with this activity! Make sure no real hair gets cut!!! If you have a rowdy bunch, you may want to have the child tear the paper hair instead of cutting it!J
Craft: Chalk Drawings
Materials:
o Colored Chalk
o Large sheets of black construction paper
Have the children create pictures of Samson, the strong man with long hair! You can spray the creations with aerosol hairspray to keep the chalk from rubbing off.
Music: If You’re Happy and You Know It
Sing the song, but let the kids come up with motions for it. For example, If you’re happy and you know it, stick out your tongue…
Activity: Balloons
Materials:
o Balloons, 1 per child
Let the children play with balloons. They may take them home!
