When Time Runs Out

Items needed:
Perfection game
Bag or wallet with money inside
Alarm Clock

Have the game "Perfection" set up and ready to be played

Call attention to the game and explain the strategy of the game. How many of you ever played the game "Perfection"? The strategy to the game is to place the different shaped pieces into the right areas on the board before time runs out and the board pops up. Have a child come and demonstrate the game.

Life can be a lot like the game Perfection. We try our best to get as much done as we can before time runs out. Unfortunately life does not have a timer we can glance at to see how much time we have left. We don’t know how long our life will be. We all hope that we will live for a along time. But, because we don’t know how much time we have, what we do with our time is very important. There is one thing we need to make sure we’ve done before time runs out. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 9:27, "man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment".

The truth is either you will die or Jesus will come – either way we need to be ready and sure of what will happen to us at that moment. The decisions you make today will affect your future and where you will go when you die or the Lord comes back.

Put the Perfection game down and pick up the bag of money.

There are things you can inherit from others. If one of your relatives is wealthy and dies you could inherit there wealth (show the money). We inherit things from our parents also such as our eye or hair color, a sense of humor or some other characteristic. But, there is one thing we cannot inherit from anyone – our faith. You can not get to heaven because your parents go to church. You cannot go to heaven because your Sunday School teacher prays for you. You cannot go to heaven because you go to Children’s Church. The only way you can go to heaven is by making a decision to make Jesus your personal Lord and Savior. The Bible says in Romans 10:13, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved". You see we have to do something to get to heaven, we have to make a choice to choose Jesus.

Set the money down and pick up the alarm clock.

Only God knows how much time you have on this earth. He has your time set (set the alarm to go off). The Bibles says in 2 Corinthians 6:2, "now is the day of salvation". Don’t put off your decision to make Jesus your personal Lord and Savior. Do it today. Do it while you have time (have the alarm go off).

There is a story about a man who had built a great business and seemed to have it all. He was wealthy. He lived in a big beautiful house. He had a red Corvette Convertible. People wanted to be him because he was so successful.

One night this man was working late at his kitchen table and so his wife went to bed. Around 3:00 o’clock in the morning the wife awoke and realized that her husband had not yet gone to bed. So she got up and went into the kitchen to check up on him. Her husband was slumped over his head lying on the table. His wife went over to him to wake him up but she couldn’t wake him up. He had died.

When the people in the community heard about this man’s death they decided to make a memorial for this man. The people gathered together to try to decide what they would write on the memorial tomb stone. Some thought they should right, "The greatest business man of our time". Others thought they should write about the generosity he should to many organizations that he gave money to. In the end they had made a wonderful memorial tomb stone displaying many great things about the man.

However, after the funeral when everyone had left the grave site an angel of the lord walked through the grave yard and stopped at this man’s tombstone. With his finger he traced on the tombstone the name God had for this man. The angel of the Lord traced the word F-O-O-L. This man had done many great things but he never made Jesus Christ his personal Lord and Savior before his time ran out.

Boys and girls you can make the decision today, while you still have time, to make Jesus Christ your personal Lord and Savior. Do it now before you time runs out.

Lead the children in a prayer accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
