Supplies: an invitation to a party, a hammer

This is an invitation to a party. All of us like to go to a party. It can be a lot of fun. This is a hammer. Let’s say that you were asked to do a lot of hard work for a friend. You may enjoy it for a little bit, but soon you may also get tired of the work. How many of you would rather go to the party instead of working? Did you know that there are some people who only want the good and fun things. They do not want anything to do with work or responsibility. You may know a person who likes for everyone to like them. Maybe they are always throwing a party or trying to do fun things so that people will like them. But, if they are ever asked to help out with something, they seem to always say no or be too busy. Today we are talking about having a heart for God. Having a heart for God means that we enjoy being with God, thinking about God, and doing the things God asks. There are some people who enjoy coming to church, but that’s as far as their love for God goes. They really do not have a heart for God, because they never want to be involved in being used by God. They don’t want to sing in the choir, or be a teacher. They may not come out to a workday at the church, but you will see them at all of the picnics. A person like that makes God very sad. He is sad because they really do not have a heart for Him. Let’s pray and ask God to show us whether we have a heart for Him or not. He can help us see whether we only want to receive from Him or whether we also want to give and be used by Him. (Lead in prayer.)
