Supplies: rat trap, small, dry stick

(Show the rat trap.) This is a trap. Traps like this have been used for years to catch mice and rats. You would think that by now, the mice and rats would have gotten the word out to avoid these. But they still get caught. Why is that? Well, you might put a little cheese on the trap or some other type of bait. (Set the trap.) The devil also baits traps to catch us. Now this trap begins to look appealing to a rat. He sees the trap, but soon forgets about the danger as he sees the bait. We do the same thing. We may know that what we are being tempted to do is wrong, but the bait that the devil puts out there starts to look very appealing. We begin to compromise. We may say things like, Well, a little bit never hurt anyone, or No one will ever know. Soon, we find ourselves caught. (Snap the trap with the stick.) And we are destroyed! Maybe there has been something you have been thinking of doing or trying. Maybe you have been tempted with drugs or alcohol. You must not compromise. To compromise is the first step to your destruction. Let’s pray that God will strengthen us to say no right up front to sin and say yes right up front to God. (Lead in prayer.)
