Father Abraham Had Many Sons

Text- (Genesis 121-4a) The Lord had said to Abram, Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.

I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.

So Abram left, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran.

Thought starters

Father Abraham had many sons, many sons had father Abraham, I am one of them and so are you, So let’s all praise the Lord! I remember hearing that song in Sunday school.

Do you want to know how that song started? Way back in the Bible, Genesis the very first book, (Read or tell the first four verses). God made what promise to Abraham? That he would make Abraham the father of a great nation. The Bible calls this The Call of Abram that is what Abraham was called at the time. Abram or Abraham left as the Lord told him when he was how old? Seventy-five years old from Haran, which is in a country which today is called Iraq.

The first eleven chapters of the Bible (chapters not books) talk about the whole human race. The rest of the Old Testament (pinch the rest of the Old Testament in your fingers to show them) focuses on Abraham’s descendants.

Did God’s promise to Abraham come true? How do you know? The latest figures from September of 2002 there were two billion Christians on the earth, One point three billion Muslims who also came from a son of Abraham, and fourteen billion Jewish ancestors of Abraham on the earth. A total of three billion, three hundred and fourteen million ancestors living two years ago!

If Abraham were sitting with us today what would he think of God’s promise to him? What do you think of promises God makes to you then? You all are children of Abraham and more importantly God’s children. Let’s pray.
