Text- (Genesis 2:15-17) The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die. Have you ever been told what your first words were? There could be many different answers. How about mama, dada, bye, bye, Your parents might have it written down in your baby book if you have one.

I bet one of the first words you understood was no! What do you think? Do you remember anything like that? Is it a word that you hear still? Do your parents tell you no because they want you to be safe? They don’t want you to get into something that would harm you.

One of the first words that Adam heard from God in the Garden of Eden was no or don’t. (Read or tell the story from Genesis 2)

Did God tell Adam not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil? Later Adam and Eve did eat from that tree. After God told them no they did anyway. Was God disappointed in them for eating? Did he say Bye-bye to Adam and Eve? No, but he did remove them from the Garden of Eden.

God didn’t say bye-bye to them because of their sin. He still loved them very much as he loves you, more than anything else. That is why he sent his son Jesus. To pay for the sin from the first no from Adam and Eve, to the ones we commit each day.
