Like A Windsock

Do you have a favorite team you follow? Do they win all the time? Do they lose all the time? Are you a fan if they win or lose? If you only cheer for a team when they are winning they call you a "fair weather" fan. Do you know any "fair weather fans?" These people are only fans when their team is winning. They change their minds all the time.
As you get older, people will ask you questions that are tough to answer. One of your friends might make a statement and ask you if you agree. Even when you don’t, you might answer yes, just because you like these friends and want to be liked by them. This will happen to you.
The question is, will you answer truthfully or will you be a windsock? Do you know what a windsock is? Here is a picture of a windsock at the airport. A windsock tells the person in the control tower at the airport which direction the wind is blowing. This allows them to tell the airplane pilots which way to land and take off. But look, this other photo shows the same windsock blowing the other direction. It changes with the wind.
Do you answer your friends’ questions truthfully or will you blow like a windsock and answer in the direction your friends "want" you to?
Matthew tells us how Jesus feels about the way we answer our friends. You’re blessed when you’re content with who you are, no more, no less.
Is it possible to change your mind on an answer? Sure it is, if that is how "you" feel. When you are with others it is easy to spot which friends answer truthfully and which of your friends are windsocks, blowing in the direction of the latest trend.
Next time you see a windsock let it remind you to be content with who you are and not just to be who your friends want you to be.
