God Had A Little Lamb

Text (John 1:29) The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world!"(New International Version)

Thought starters

Mary had a little lamb; its fleece as white as snow, everywhere that Mary went the lamb was sure to go. Do you know that rhyme? I was surprised it had so many verses. That poem is from the 1830’s over 170 years old. Do you have a lamb as a pet?

Have lambs always been kind of a farm animal or maybe a pet?

In Bible times, lambs were used as sacrifices or offerings to God in thanksgiving and also for being sorry for being bad. Remember how the people of Israel put lambs blood over their doorways so the angel of death would passover them when they were almost ready to leave Egypt?

One day John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and he said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world." John reminds us that God had a little lamb too! Jesus is that Lamb who would die on the cross as a sacrifice or offering to pay for our sins.

When you see a sign around church or hear the words "Lamb of God" remember that is another name for Jesus, who was sacrificed for you.

Hymn-"From Highest Heav’n the Eternal Son" – Henry W. Baker

Prayer-Dear God, Thank you for sending your Lamb to us as an offering for our sins. Help us to share his love with others. Amen
