Beloved

Text (Matthew 3:17) And lo a voice from heaven, saying This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. (King James Version)

Thought Starters

It seems that after we celebrate Jesus’ birth he grows up fast in our stories on Sunday morning. Today we talk about him being baptized by John the Baptist. (Tell the story of the Baptism of Jesus)

I wonder if people listened when Jesus spoke? If they listened when Jesus spoke, do you think they listened when God spoke?

And lo a voice from heaven, saying This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. I wonder what "beloved" means? You would think it means to be loved. In the dictionary it means, "greatly loved, dear to the heart." So let’s rephrase the verse, "This is my greatly loved, dear to the heart Son, in whom I am well pleased.

If Jesus was "greatly loved, and dear to the heart of God. Should Jesus also be greatly loved and dear to the heart of us?

When we greatly love Jesus and make him dear to our heart, we "Belong" to him. (The word right before "beloved" in the dictionary)

Hymn-"Father in Heaven, Who Lovest All" – Rudyard Kipling

Prayer-Dear God, Thank you for the story of the Baptism of Jesus. We want to make him dear to our heart and belong to him. Amen
