Text- (Matthew 11:2 &3) When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples to ask him, “Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?”(New International Version)
I heard a rumor that you might be getting exciting for Christmas? Is that true?
Do you know what a rumor is? The dictionary says ” a story going around without support.
Are all rumors for real?
No, in fact most times they aren’t true or for real.
There was a rumor in the Bible that Matthew tells us. (Tell them the text above)
John the Baptist heard this rumor about this guy named “Jesus” he wanted to know if “He” was the one who was to come or is it someone else?
How did John find out if the rumor was for real or not? He sent his own disciples to find Jesus and ask him. Later Matthew tells us that Jesus said to them, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.” In other words “I’m for real!”
Now tell me what you received for Christmas last year? Do you remember everything? Do you remember anything? It must not have been “real” important. The blind see, the lame walk, leprosy is healed, the deaf hear, and the dead are raised. The gift of Jesus belongs to each and every one of you. It’s not a rumor. He’s for real.
