Text (Learned as a child, taken from the story in Luke 19:1-9) "Zacchaeus was a wee little man, a wee little man was he. He climbed up in the sycamore tree, for the Lord he wanted to see, And as the Savior passed that way, He looked up in that tree, and he said, "Zacchaeus, you come down from there; for I’m going to your house today, for I’m going to your house today." (Author unknown)

    Thought Starters

That was a song I learned when I was your age. The song has been stuck in my head all this time.

Was Zacchaeus small or large? What do you like most about the story? What we sometimes forget that Zacchaeus was a tax collector, not a very popular person in the Bible. He probably didn’t have very many friends.

So when Jesus entered Jericho that day people probably were lined up on both sides of the roads. Zacchaeus, because he was_____, I’m sure tried to cut in front of people on the street. Because he wasn’t liked to well do you think anyone wanted to let him cut in front? What did he do? He found a tree to climb up into to get good view of this special guest in Jericho.

A Sycamore tree which by the way isn’t a large tree it is a medium size tree. Probably could climb it if you didn’t weigh very much.

Who spotted Zacchaeus? Jesus did, and he told Zacchaeus to come down from that medium sized tree. Then Jesus told Zacchaeus, "I’m coming over to your house today!"

Zacchaeus was a rich man partly because he collected extra taxes from people. He told Jesus that if he cheated anybody he would pay him or her back four times what he took. He also told Jesus he would give a large amount of his what he owned to the poor. The large amount he gave was one half of what he owned.

Let’s review; Zacchaeus was, small, medium, or large? What kind of tree is a sycamore tree? What kind of amount did Zacchaeus give to the poor?

Remember, Jesus came to seek, on the ground or in trees, and to save what or who was lost. Whether they are small, medium, or large.

Hymn-"Hark, The Voice of Jesus Calling" ¾ Daniel March

Prayer-Dear Lord, Thank you for showing us the example of Zacchaeus, for what he gave to the poor, and back to others. Look for us on the ground and in the trees too. Amen
