Let's Get the Word Out!

Text (John 14:16-17a) "I will talk to the Father, and he’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth."

Thought Starters

I’m going to miss seeing you during the summer. We know that Jesus is always with us. (Pull out the red "Play-doh" in a shape of a valentine heart) We need to remember to think of him often and to pray each day.

How are we able to do that? What makes us so sure that Jesus is with us? Jesus is in our heart. John tells us that Jesus told the disciples that God was going to send "Another Friend" to us. What was that all about? The disciples had Jesus. Who was that "Other Friend?"

Today is Pentecost Sunday. The day we remember that God sent the followers of Jesus and the world the "Other Friend" Jesus was talking about. God sent us the Holy Spirit, to be in our hearts. The Holy Spirit is in each one of us. The Holy Spirit is the fire, spark, or flame that God has burning in each one of us. As you get older you’ll understand it more.

The Holy Spirit came down to the followers of Jesus as a flame. (I slowly molded the valentine heart into a flame)

That is how we know that Jesus is with us. God sending his Holy Spirit, the "Other Friend" Jesus was talking about.

Pentecost is a way to remember that Jesus is with us through the Holy Spirit. Not just today but every day.

It’s nice to know you have this "Other Friend."
