Marked with Water

Text (Luke 3:21-22) After all the people were baptized, Jesus was baptized. As he was praying, the sky opened up and the Holy Spirit, like a dove descending, came down on him. And along with the Spirit, a voice: "You are my son, chosen and marked by my love, pride of my life." (The Message-Eugene H. Peterson)

Thought Starters
I brought some things to write with today. What do you use at home, preschool, or school to write with?

Crayons are colorful; on a piece of paper they make a nice mark. If I would write something on your forehead with this crayon would it come off? Yes, it wouldn’t take much to get it off. But don’t try this at home ok?

If I used this pencil to make a mark on your forehead would it come off? Yes, it comes with an eraser.

If I used this pen to make the mark would it come off? Yes, with some scrubbing from you mom or dad it would.

If I used this Sharpie to make a mark on your forehead would it come off? Sooner or later it would. That is why you use them very carefully.

Luke tells us…(Read or tell Luke 3:21-22) that John the Baptist saw Jesus with Epiphany Eyes.

"You are my son, chosen and marked by my love, pride of my life."

When you were baptized like Jesus was, God marked you with water. It will never come off. You are very special, marked with his love with water.

Whenever you see a permanent marker remember God marks you with water, and it will never come off.
Hymn-"Wonder of Wonders, Here Revealed" -Jane Parker Huber
