Are you excited for Thanksgiving? It’s only a few days away. What’s your favorite thing to eat on Thanksgiving? Will you have plenty of food to choose from? Will you get enough to eat?

It’s a great American Holiday. We all know the story about the first Thanksgiving. With the Pilgrims celebrating their first harvest. Some of you even study this in school.

A few years ago I learned what each Pilgrim had to eat each day before the first harvest. What do you think they had to eat?

Each Pilgrim, father, mother, and child each had this (pull out bag with five kernels of corn). They had five kernels of corn to eat each day. What do you think about that? A ration is a share and this is what their ration (share) for the day was.Could you live on this each day? How would you divide it up? Would you have one for breakfast, one for lunch, one for a snack after school, and two for dinner? Or would you save the snack for before you went to bed?

Do you think they were excited about the first harvest? That “Thanksgiving” feast was a thank you to God for a successful harvest. Do you think they were glad to get rid of their five kernels of corn?

What are other things we can be thankful for?

We need to thank God for all his blessings. Food, shelter, family, friends, and the blessings still to come. Have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving.
