Last summer, our church met in a school and we had NO air conditioning. Several Sundays it was hotter inside than out, so we met out under a tree. To bring the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 to life, we had our class outside under a tree. I brought blankets to sit on. I made a loaf of bread in the bread machine, unsliced, so that we could pull off pieces to eat. It was a nice change of pace to meeting in the classroom, and we got to share a little communal meal. We didn’t try any fish, but it might be fun to have some of the larger goldfish for a snack, too. This was an older class (10-12) and they enjoyed being able to relax and lay around on the blankets. In fact, I found they’re usually a lot quieter when we’re outside than in.
