Text (Mark 4:35-39) Late that day he said to them, "Let’s go across to the other side." They took him in the boat as he was. Other boats came along. A huge storm came up. Waves poured into the boat, threatening to sink it. And Jesus was in the stern, head on a pillow, sleeping! They roused him, saying, "Teacher, is it nothing to you that we’re going down?" Awake now he told the wind to pipe down and said to the sea, "Quiet! Settle down!" the wind ran out of breath; the sea became smooth as glass. (The Message-Eugene Peterson)

How is your summer going? Are you staying busy?

Sometimes, when we have too much time on our hands, we can actually start to bug someone else even without intending to! Have your parents ever said, "Quiet or Settle Down" or something similar?

There is a story from Mark in the New Testament that has to do with Jesus using those words. (Read text)

Wow, imagine how scared they must have been. A storm at sea, no big boats or helicopters to rescue them. A storm all around them (Pull out the video or dvd box of "The Perfect Storm") Now this would be scary! Do you think the disciples were in a storm like this? Probably not, could Jesus settle down this Perfect Storm? Yes, he could.

Does it ever storm around your neighborhood? Summer is a season with lots of storms. Do you ever get scared? The next time that happens and you are scared, remember this story from Mark, Jesus is always with you at all times and in all places. Remember He is always with you especially when you are scared just talk to him in prayer.

Prayer Dear Lord, thank you for this story from Mark. Quiet our fears like you quieted the sea. Knowing you’re with us always gives us comfort and strength. Amen
