The Second Sunday of Easter – Embedded Disciple

Text (John 20: 30-31) Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have Life in his name. (New International Version)

Can any of you name the first four books of the New Testament? Matthew, Mark, Luke and John- As with all books in the Bible, each is very important.

Matthew- one of the Jesus’ disciples, wrote this book for the Jewish people.

Mark- wrote down stories that Peter told about Jesus. This book was written for the citizens in the Roman Empire who did not understand how Jews lived.

Luke-A doctor, who often traveled with Paul, tells us what many people remembered about Jesus.John-one of the disciples of Jesus, wrote his book for you! John reports to us the miracles and teachings of Jesus.

If John were alive today, he would be an embedded reporter (explain where the term embedded came from and its use lately) John would be on the front lines, next to all the action. Maybe he would work for BBN-The Bible News Network.

When John was with Jesus he reported to us: that Jesus fed five thousand people, walked on water, healed a blind man, raised Lazarus from the dead, went fishing.But most importantly John reports to us when Jesus appeared to the disciples after the resurrection. Not once, but three times John reports that Jesus is with the disciples.

When your Worship Center Leader reads from the book of John, remember he is the embedded reporter, he reports to you the Miracles and Teachings of Jesus.
