TOPIC: Fruit of the Spirit
TEXT: Galatians 5:22,23,25; Romans 8:13, 14
(Begin drawing man.) I’m going to draw a picture of a person that we’re going to let represent each of us. The person that you are and that other people see is made up of your thoughts, words, and actions. How you live is important. People can tell if you are like God or not by watching you. You need to live like God but there is a sinful nature inside you that fights against that happening. Why does it matter?

Romans 8:13 says if you live according to the sinful nature-in other words live those wrong thoughts, words, and actions-you will die. But if by the Holy Spirit you put to death those wrong thoughts, words, and actions-you stop doing them-you will live. You see, being a Christian means you must think, talk, and act like Christ. Romans 8:14 says it is the people who are led by the Spirit of God who are the sons of God. If you are led by God’s Spirit, you will live like His Spirit; you will live out the fruit of the Spirit in your thoughts, words, and actions and other people will be able to tell!
But what do we usually do? We usually act how we feel. If we are having a bad day, we act like it! We talk like it! We even think complaining thoughts! That isn’t how it is supposed to be. Galatians 5:25 says, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” We’ve got to live out the fruit of the Spirit no matter what our day is like by listening and acting on His guidance! Evaluate how you are doing through the day by going through the fruit of the Spirit in your mind: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

(Flip picture.) As you go through the day, check yourself to see how you are doing with the fruit of the Spirit. Do people see thoughts, words, and actions in you that lead to death? Or are you being led by God’s Spirit, showing the fruit of Spirit? Can people see the fruit of the Spirit in you, an example that leads to life?
