If Nothing Changes, Nothing Changes!

The title of this article says it all. Most people are hesitant to change. Yet, the most meaningful experiences of our lives are coupled with the most dramatic changes. Consider your salvation, marriage, and call to ministry as just three examples of this lifestyle principle. Change, for the sake of change only, will not necessarily bring about any benefit. But change with purpose can open doors that will have an everlasting impact on you, your ministry, and those you come in contact with. As a popular song says, "Your life in Christ can be the greatest story!"

I still remember the first time I heard Billy Burns say, "Change your actions, or change your name." There is so much truth bundled in this short and to-the-point statement. We are called to be Children’s Ministers. So often, Children’s Ministers try instead to be Children’s Entertainers. H. R. Pufnstuf and Jim Henson are examples of Children’s Entertainers. It is important that we, as Children’s Ministers, keep our hearts and ears open to the Lord’s voice. He is daily guiding and leading. He is daily talking to us. We must be listening so our actions can fulfill His desires through us. This unique calling has a unique challenge to walk forward in the Spirit and not the natural. In the natural, it is easy to find ourselves entertaining children instead of leading them into the presence of God.

I want to challenge you make a change, a change in your thinking regarding ministry success. Norman Vincent Peale once said, "Change your thoughts and you change your world." What are the typical questions you may hear when talking ministry success? Maybe, ‘How many did you have in service?’ Or, ‘What programs are you using that are helping your ministry to grow?’ We all know that numbers, though they reflect physical growth to a church, are no indication of spiritual growth. Let’s say that a church builds attendance to 100 kids. If those children thoroughly enjoy a media filled service and attend week after week, that is great. But if they never come face to face with God Almighty during those services, if they never experience the supernatural working of God that changes their lives, that is horrible!

Programs are no substitute for anointing. The best and newest teaching techniques cannot replace divine interaction. You are more than a believer. You are a believer who is called to be a leader. Yes, you are anointed! Scripture confirms your anointing. "You have an anointing from the Holy One…The anointing you received from Him remains in you…His anointing teaches you about all things and that anointing is real." (1 John 2:20,27) You have the power of the resurrection emanating from your spirit. It is the same power that raised Christ from the dead. You have authority in Christ over all the powers of the enemy. You have faith that can move mountains. This anointing, power, authority, and faith are the four most effective tools we have in ministry. Still, they tend to be the least used. Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "There are many ways of going forward but only one way of standing still." Change your thinking this week! God is talking to you now and will show you how you can tap into this anointing, power, authority, and faith to dynamically change your ministry for eternity! Start now, this week! Begin somewhere! You cannot build your ministry or change the lives of those children on what you intend to do.

Yes, I believe we are in the last days of ministry before Christ’s imminent return. So now is the time, today is the day of decision. "In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing." – Theodore Roosevelt. What is your decision? Will you remain in the status quo? Will you allow yourself to be stretched and changed? Will your life and ministry in and through Christ become the greatest story?
