I’m going to light these 2 candles, one representing God and one representing you and I. The lights on these candles are going to stand for the love of God. The Bible says that God’s love endures forever. In other words, whatever bad things may happen, however mean people may treat you, however difficult life may get, God’s love will still last and be there for you. Our love isn’t so enduring. (Blow out candle.) We tend to get angry easily. We get discouraged quickly. Or, sometimes we just get to distracted by all the thing we are involved in–school, sports, friendships…

According to Deuteronomy 10:12, the Lord requires of you to love Him. The verse says, “What does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

How can you meet such a high requirement? How can you make your love for God enduring, lasting, like His love is for you? Watch very closely. (Hold unlit candle toward lit candle.) Did you see what happened? Without even putting the unlit candle in the flame, it caught on fire. The carbon in the smoke will burn and relight the unlit candle just by it being near the candle that is on fire. As long as we stay close to God each day, our love for Him will last.

How do we stay close to God? By talking to Him, by listening to Him talk to you, by reading and learning the Bible. As you read, talk, and listen to Him your love for Him will last. It will last through the difficult times and you won’t get too distracted by less important things. God’s love for you lasts forever. Your love for God will last forever as long as you stay close to Him!
