The Key to a Growing Church is a Powerful Children’s Ministry

The following is an excerpt from a chapter titled "From Premise to Promise" in the e-book ‘Empowering the Children’s Minister: Key to Winning the World for the Lord Jesus Christ’ by Rev. Gary R. Linn.
Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." It has become a favorite verse for sermon fodder and motivational tools related to Children’s Ministry.
This scripture is a powerful premise or basis for the importance and the fundamental effectiveness of Children’s Ministry. But there is so much, so very much more wrapped up in this short and to-the-point verse.
Carefully tucked away in this scripture is an incredible promise of Holy Spirit proportions. When a child is taught the Word of God in such a way that it becomes alive to him, then a relationship with the Almighty develops. This wonderful relationship will follow him all the days of his life. It is the promise reiterated by the Apostle Paul in Philippians that "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
This premise or basis for reaching children with the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is then transformed from a teaching for parents, pastors and churches into a mighty summons from God that forcefully couples itself with what we now call the Great Commission. Therefore, you have the assurance from God that with this summons you will also be empowered with everything you need to carry it out. "For all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
Be alert, though, …..There is an increase in the satanic attack on the lives of children which has insidiously crept into the foundations of society, family, education, and governments around the world. As satanic principles are engrained in the lives of children, they continue them into adulthood and the direction of entire nations are changed by the enemy.
What you must see here is that the devil finds ways to twist all things God has made, said, and performed in such a way as to lead astray the hearts of men. The principle from Proverbs 22:6 is being used by him today, but here is how he uses it: train a child in the ways of the fallen world, and when he is old he will not turn from it….
….The devil comes only to steal and destroy. But God Almighty has sent His Son so that His children may have life and life abundantly!
God has called and set apart the Children’s Minister to undertake this commission to bring children into a relationship with the Almighty that will follow them all the days of their lives. He has empowered this creative office of ministry and those who fill it with abilities, insights, directions, visions, and purposes that are distinctive for this appointment. The God of peace equips you with everything good for doing His will. Hebrews 13:21
